The last major festival of 2014 in Kilkenny, the SUBTITLE European Film Festival, has drawn to a close with The Angela Awards taking place at Set Theatre in Kilkenny last night.

The awards were established to recognise the achievements of those working the European film scene, while being honoured by their Irish counterparts at the same time.

Hosted by Pauline McLynn and with music last night by the Camembert Quartet, Set was home for the night to Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father, My Left Foot);Aisling Franciosi (The Fall, Quirke); Barry Ward (Jimmy’s Hall); Sean McGinley (Love/Hate, The Wind That Shakes the Barley); Michael McElhatton (Game of Thrones); Phil Burke (The Good Wife) and Allan Hyde (True Blood) while those honoured at the awards included honoured at the awards include Russian star Yuri Kolokolnikov (Game of Thrones, Transporter 4), Danish leading man, Kim Bodnia (The Bridge, Pusher), France’s Slimane Dazi (A Prophet), the Netherlands’ much-loved Carice van Houten (Game of Thrones, Black Book) and Germany’s Richard Sammell (Inglorious Basterds, Casino Royale).
