We knew before today that the Kilkenny Citroen Centre Minor A Final in Nowlan Park was going to throw up a city winner but after a fiercly contested second half it was O’Loughlin Gael’s who walked off the field as champions.

After a low-scoring start and sometimes sluggish first half the sides went into the break at 8 points apiece. The second half sprang to life early on, producing plenty of goal opportunities with the action also seeing O’Loughlin’s Robbie Buckley sent off for a second yellow card.

Heading into the closing minutes of the game it looked like the Palmerstown club were going to be taking home the title, but for a second and late O’Loughlin’s goal to change the course of what had been a free-scoring second half once more.

In what transpired to be quite a physical contest between two top young sides, only a point could separate them in the end, O’Loughlin Gaels taking home their fifth Minor Hurling A Championship title and a first in ten years with the final score 2-10 to 3-06.
