Phil Coulter brings his new show ‘The Songs I Know So Well’ to Langton’s Ballroom this Friday 14 November.
Up in that Pantheon inhabited by the biggest selling recording artists of all time in Ireland, rubbing shoulders with Bono and the Boys, you might be surprised to bump into Phil Coulter. He has performed with everyone from James Galway and the London Symphony Orchestra to Nanci Griffith and the Blue Moon Orchestra. Add in Henry Mancini, Elmer Bernstein and Quincy Jones and you can see that Phil Coulter is certainly a man with a wealth of musical talent to share!!
Despite his pop success, he remained drawn to the Irish folk of his youth, working with acts including the Dubliners, Planxty and the Furey Brothers while concurrently writing a series of hits for the Bay City Rollers. After nearly 50 years in the music industry, Phil is responsible for writing at least four titles that can be added to the list of Great Irish Songs – the anthems ‘The Town I Loved So Well’, ’Ireland’s Call’, ’Steal Away’ and the haunting ‘Scorn Not His Simplicity’. He is also renowned for writing the Capitol Showband’s 1963 hit “Foolin’ Time”, their 1965 Eurovision hit “Walking the Streets in the Rain” and Cliff Richard’s all-time classic “Congratulations” in partnership with Bill Martin just to name a few!!
Phil will be joined by his special guest & wife Geraldine Branagan for an unforgettable evening of music & song.
All tickets available from Langton’s, www.set.ie and Rollercoaster Records.
