The Easy Food Home-Cook Hero Awards final, in association with Kenwood, took place on Saturday in Cooks Academy Cookery School, South William Street, Dublin. Each of the 30 finalists (three in each category), battled it out in the state-of-the-art kitchens to prepare their creative and tasty dishes for the awaiting judges. Judges were celebrity chefs Catherine Fulvio and Paul Flynn and Managing Director of Easy Food magazine Gina Miltiadou. Judges spent the day tasting dishes and chatting with finalists before announcing the winners at a black-tie award ceremony in The Shelbourne Hotel, St Stephen’s Green, Dublin.

Amongst the winners was Eoin Ryan of Windgap (pictured above), Co. Kilkenny whose ‘Plain Delicious Lamb Burger’ picked up the Best Burger award.

Each winner received €1,500 worth of prizes including a weekend break, kitchen appliances, restaurant vouchers, and a hamper of utensils, kitchenware and foodie goodies. The overall big award on the night was the Easy Food Dish of the Year, which was awarded to the home cook with the best overall dish. That nod went to Eoin Corr

Catherine Fulvio said of the standard of this year’s entries,

“This is my fourth year to judge the Easy Food Home Cook Hero Awards and each year the standard increases substantially. I am always amazed and impressed with the confidence of the home cooks in particular the children. There were some real highlights for me today, my outstanding dish of the day was the Autumn Streusel Cake, my only disappointment was that we were served only one slice!”

You can catch the awards on TV, along with Eoin and his award-winning burger, on TV3 this coming Saturday at 1.40pm.
