Song Of The Sea, the forthcoming feature release from Kilkenny’s Cartoon Saloon is building on its Oscar-nomination potential by picking up six nominations for the 42nd annual Annie Awards to be held in LA in the new year.

The Annie’s are well regarded as the animation industry’s Oscar equivalent and the nominations announced yesterday are sure to put Song Of The Sea on even more radars.

  • Outstanding Achievement, Character Design in an Animated Feature Production – Tomm Moore, Marie Thorhauge, Sandra Anderson, Rosa Ballester Cabo
  • Outstanding Achievement, Directing in an Animated Feature Production – Tomm Moore
  • Outstanding Achievement, Music in an Animated Feature Production – Bruno Coulais & Kila
  • Outstanding Achievement, Production Design in an Animated Feature Production – Adrien Merigeau
  • Outstanding Achievement, Writing in an Animated Feature Production – Will Collins
  • Outstanding Achievement, Editorial in an Animated Feature Production – Darragh Byrne

The Best Animated Feature nomination puts Song Of The Sea in direct competition with animated blockbuster The LEGO Movie. Song Of The Sea opens in Irish cinemas in the new year. Those in the US get the jump on the movie with an American cinema release due for 19 December.
